This Year’s Top Transeasonal Trends You Need To Know About
You know how bears hibernate in winter? Well, during a global pandemic, so do humans. As we hunker down during this tough time and practice self-isolating, we see a lot of comfy clothes in our immediate future.
But the good news is we’re moving into the colder months which lends itself to staying at home. Because let’s face it – there’s nothing better than snuggling up in a cosy sweatshirt with a mug of hot choc as you watch the rain trickle down the window from the comfort of your bed.
This is a major winter vibe and we’re all going to be experts by the time the rain dries up and the sun reemerges. And luckily, this year’s transeasonal trends are gearing up to be some of the best yet. Think big, bright and bold colours in dramatic fabrics and cuts that will perk you up during quarantine. Read on to find out more.
1. The brighter the better
This season is all about the blocked knit. We’re talking big, bright and bold lime greens, neon oranges and hot pinks. Not only are these colours right on trend, but they’re sure to bring you a bit of cheer during this drab time. And don’t limit yourself to just sweaters – the hottest knits for 2020 include dresses, skirts and tops too.
2. Keep it cosy with a cardi
Cardigans are making a comeback in a big way. There’s nothing better than snuggling into an oversized cardi on a dreary day; it’s the clothing equivalent of a belly full of chicken noodle soup when you’re sick or a big hug from mum when you’re sad. So whether you opt for a neutral tone or a statement pattern, a couple of cardigans are must-have staples in every winter wardrobe.
3. Skirts aren’t just for summer
Just because the sun’s gone away doesn’t mean your skirts have to be packed up too. In fact, we’re seeing a lot of cool knit skirts this season. In midi lengths and a-line cuts with everything from fringe to crochet detailings, these types of skirts are the perfect way to break up the hoodies and sweatpants this winter. And there’s so many fabulous ways to style them:
- As a co-ord with a matching long sleeve or short sleeve top
- With a funky sweater that ties into the skirt’s colour palette or completely contrasts it
- A simple off-the-shoulder ribbed top and a few accessories to dress it up
4. Bring back the balloon sleeve
One of the largest trends last season was the balloon sleeve and it’s back and bigger than ever – literally. Basic sleeves just won’t cut it anymore and this year, the balloon sleeve has brought some friends along with it. Balloon sleeves, batwing sleeves, bell sleeves – we’re here for it all. An interesting sleeve adds a bit of theatrical flair to your outfit that’ll get you excited, even from the confines of your home. So whether you’re baking banana bread or binge watching Tiger King, do it with a touch of drama.
5. Put some fun in your funnel neck
We’ve been totally crushing on turtlenecks for some time now. Gone are the days when they were seen as daggy. Thanks to funky patterns, cool cuts and daring colours, the turtleneck has reinvented itself and firmly cemented its place as a winter wardrobe essential.
Now say hello to the turtleneck’s little sister, the funnel neck. With its high, wide neck, it adds a bit of fun to an outfit without completely swallowing you up. And the great thing about a funnel neck is that it flatters and fits a wide variety of body types and face shapes. Worn with a denim skirt or even over your gym gear, a funky funnel neck is all the rage leading up to the cooler weather.
